The Red Bulls acquired midfielder Khano Smith from the Seattle Sounders FC on Thursday in exchange for allocation money.

“One of our priorities before the start of the season was to add depth and athleticism to the left side of our midfield, and we feel that we have accomplished this goal by acquiring Khano,” Red Bulls sporting director Jeff Agoos said.

Smith, who will be starting his fifth MLS season, spent most of his career with the New England Revolution. Before being selected by Seattle Sounders FC in the 2008 MLS Expansion Draft on Nov. 26, the Bermuda national team member played in 85 games over four seasons, scoring eight goals and 11 assists.

He started 18 of 23 games last season and had two goals and three assists.
