Red Bulls striker Kenny Cooper was named MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for final week of the season.

With the Red Bulls needed a victory Saturday in Philadelphia to avoid being consigned to the wild-card round, Cooper scored a brace in the 3-0 rout of the rival Union.

His first score came off a stutter-step penalty kick in the 13th minute after midfielder Tim Cahill was tripped up inside the box. Then the big striker notched his second goal when he finished a Dax McCarty feed midway through the second half.

Cooper finished second in the MLS scoring chart with a career-high tying 18 goals. His contact status will warrant close attention this offseason. After being acquired from Portland in a draft-day deal, Cooper made a base salary of $275,000 and a guaranteed $292,500 this year; it remains to be seen if the Red Bulls will bring him back next season and for exactly how much.
