After Brazilian superstar Marta tore the U.S. Women’s National Team a new set of hindquarters in the Women’s World Cup, now the two-time FIFA Player of the Year is leaving Sweden’s Umea IK and reportedly headed to Hollywood? Lady Beckham, anyone?

Yesterday Swedish tabloid Expressen reported that the 21-year-old had inked a preliminary contract with the Los Angeles Sol. She’s shortlisted to take her third Player of the Year award on Monday, and the deal is to be announced later in the week.

I don’t follow the women’s game as closely as the men’s, but a lobotomized rat could figure out girl is nice. She scored two jaw-dropping goals in Brazil’s 4-0 thrashing of the U.S. in the 2007 Women’s World Cup semis in China. It snapped a 51-game winning streak and was the full team’s worst loss ever. I’m not even Catholic, but I’d cross myself after that, too. I don;t know what the TV ratings were for WUSA, but if girl can can make plays like that on a regular basis, I’d actually watch.
