LeBron James’ confidant and NBA power broker William Wesley is reportedly trying to sell teams on a James-John Calipari package.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Matthews “continues to work back channels to sell John Calipari and James as a package deal to franchises such as the Bulls, Nets and Clippers with coaching vacancies and salary cap room.”
If true, this may not bode well for the Knicks, who already have Mike D’Antoni in place as their head coach. James’ Cavaliers are currently evaluating their head coach Mike Brown.
Calipari recently wrote on Twitter that he plans to stay at Kentucky, but few are putting much stock into that statement.
“Now, do I have to respond to these rumors too?” said Calipari, who was in attendance at the Cavaliers’ loss to the Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Calipari went 72-112 in his two-plus years coaching from the Nets from 1996-’99. He was fired after New Jersey got off to a 3-17 start in the strike-shortened1998-’99 season.
