Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Broncos are “discreetly talking to a small handful of teams about (wide receiver Brandon) Marshall, but that they are not engaged in a full-blown auction (yet) with the highest bidder getting him.”

The Jets, despite public claims to the contrary, could be looking for an upgarde at the position that drops sharply in experience after Jerricho Cotchery.

The Jets have been willing to make a move shortly before the season if they think it will help their team — see Brett Favre from last year.

The Broncos have claimed they would not deal disgruntled Marshall, but they also said the same thing about Jay Cutler then traded him to the Bears.

Marshall was recently suspended by Denver for the remainder of the preseason after video surfaced of him dogging it at practice

PFT’s Mike Florio writes, “One source has told us that multiple teams are negotiating with the Broncos regarding Marshall. Another source has heard talk of such discussions, too. But a couple of teams that would be potential candidates to trade for Marshall haven’t been contacted.”

It’s difficult to gauge which category the Jets would fall into. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said last week that he could add a wide receiver to the roster.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out at this point,” Tannenbaum told WFAN. “If we could add a receiver or a couple of other positions we will take a long look at that. We like our team, but if we can add as we have done in the past . .. I want to keep our options open.”
