Chad Pennington wants to stay with the Dolphins, even if it’s as a backup, sources have told the Miami Herald.

Jeff Darlington writes, “The veteran has decided to make it his priority to stay with the Dolphins, even if it means backing up quarterback Chad Henne, two sources said this week. The Dolphins are willing to entertain the possibility under some circumstances.”

One of those is the former Jet’s ability to throw a 15-yard out pattern. Pennington missed most of last season after a shoulder injury and had surgery in October.

Earlier this month, team president Bill Parcells said he expected Pennington to try to play in the NFL again but did not say it would be with the Dolphins.
