ESPN is reporting that Scott Pioli has agreed to become the GM of the Kansas City Chiefs, which will likely end Herm Edwards tenure as the team’s head coach.

Pioli, the Patriots VP of player personnel, was reportedly seen packing up his desk with the Patriots. Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is considered one of the favorites to fill Edward’s spot, if he is fired.

Edwards coached the Jets from 2001-’05. After the ’05 season the Jets gave the Chiefs permission to speak with Edwards. Kansas City hired him and gave the Jets their fourth-round draft pick in the 2006 draft.

Edwards took the Jets to the playoffs in three of his five seasons. He took the Chiefs to the playoffs in his first season there, too. But the team has gone 6-26 the previous two seasons.
