ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that former Jets quarterback Brett Favre will meet with Vikings head coach Brad Childress this week.
Werder writes, “There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings. The team would expect him to participate fully in offseason minicamps and training camps, which he missed last year with the Jets.”
Earlier today, the network’s Trent Dilfer said he received an “emphatic” text message from Favre that said “No,” he was not considering a return to football.
Favre retired from the Jets in February but requested his official release from the team late last month, leading to speculation that he was planning a return to the field.
At the end of last season, it was reported Favre had an injured bicep that would require surgery if he wanted to play again. Favre has not had that surgery.
Werder says “Favre may believe the injury can heal on its own as did a similar problem with his left shoulder while he played in Green Bay.”
Favre’s retirement left the Jets with Kellen Clemens as their probable starting quarterback until the team traded up to draft USC quarterback Mark Sanchez last month.
