NBADraft.net is pushing a rumor that the Knicks are likely to select Davidson’s Stephen Curry in the draft.

The Web site suggests the Knicks assured Curry they would take him with their lottery pick and that was the reason he decided to leave college after his junior year. If the lottery balls bounce the way they are expected to the Knicks would get the eighth pick. If they luck out and move up to one of the top three picks then Curry would not be a likely option.

NBADraft.net is not exactly known for its’ ability to break stories, so I am not sure how much credence you want to put into this report. And in their own mock draft they have the Knicks selecting Louisville forward Earl Clark with the eighth pick.

Curry rose to prominence during his sophomore season when he carried upstart Davidson to the Elite Eight, where they lost by two points to eventual champion Kansas. This year the Wildcats missed the NCAA Tournament, but Curry still had a solid season. He is a tremendous shooter and would appear to be a good fit for Mike D’Antoni’s run-and-gun system. But most of his college career was played against competition that was far from elite, so it would be interesting to see how easily he could make the jump to the NBA.
