One of LeBron James’ closest advisers says the free-agent superstar will start planning his future next week.
Maverick Carter told ESPN.com “(James) and his confidantes have yet to sit down to analyze all his possible landing spots. That process should begin sometime within the next week or so.”
Carter said James decision where to sign “will come down to winning championships.”
In the report, Carter, “a longtime business partner and manager,” is called “the most powerful voice in James’ inner circle.”
Carter refuted earlier reports that the Cavaliers star and John Calipari were shopping themselves as a package deal.
“LeBron just wants to win,” Carter said. “He doesn’t want to handpick his next coach.”
James can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. His season ended earlier than expected when the Cavaliers were knocked out of the playoffs by the Celtics.
