Manchester United made a world record £62.5 million bid for Bayern Munich star winger Franck Ribery, as a contingency plan if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves this summer for the Bernabeu.

Granted, Ronaldo just said that his dream move to Real Madrid is dead, and that he’s staying at Old Trafford. But we all know the tapping up will continue this summer, and Man United can’t be left hanging. So The Guardian claims they’ve made a bid weeks ago for the 26-year-old Frenchman that would shatter the mark of £44 million paid Real Madrid paid for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.
