Rutgers, Notre Dame, Missouri and Nebraska have all been extended initial offers to join the Big Ten Conference, according to a report from a Missouri radio station.
If Notre Dame accepts the offer, which they have repeatedly turned down in the past, the Big Ten could cut out Rutgers, but more likely find a 16th team to join the league.
“We are a proud member of the Big East Conference. It is not our place to speculate on any reports on the expansion plans of any other conference,” Pernetti said in a statement issued by the school, according to NJ.com.
No changes can be approved until the Big Ten presidents and chancellors meet the first week of June in Chicago.
