CARSON, Calif. — Robbie Keane said he hopes Sunday’s MLS Cup final will not be David Beckham’s last appearance in an LA Galaxy jersey.
A win against Houston Dynamo at Home Depot Center would secure Beckham his first MLS championship in what pundits believe could be a fitting farewell for the 36-year-old after four years in the U.S.
French giant Paris St. Germain leads the chase for the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, whose contract expires in the offseason. He also will receive various offers to return to the English Premier League.
Beckham has refused to discuss his future publicly until after Sunday’s final.
But Keane, who arrived in Los Angeles from Tottenham Hotspur in August, hopes the midfield veteran ignores the interest in Europe to renew his contract with the Galaxy.
“I’ve loved playing with David Beckham and hopefully we will continue to play together,” Keane said, according to Sky Sports.
The Irish international said he has been delighted to call the former England captain a teammate.
“I’ve played against David over the years and I got a taste of how good he is when he trained with Spurs last winter. But it has been a pleasure to play with him for the Galaxy,” he said.
