ROCKET COACHES FIRST
TAMPA — When the Yankees and Roger Clemens were working on signing the Hall of Fame pitcher to his pro-rated $28 million contract, Clemens was visiting the home of one of his sisters in Texas. He was there to watch his nephew Nick play baseball.
Clemens also âpitchedââ in by coaching first base. Hereâs a look at Roger the coach.
If you listen closely to the video, you will hear the sound of ball hitting bat and someone yelling, âItâs over his head, yes it is!ââ The batter who hits that double is Clemensâ nephew Nick, one of three doubles in the game for him. Nick also pitched four innings of shutout baseball that night. Pitching runs in the family.
Yankee prospect Joba Chamberlain, 21, has been impressed by not only Clemensâ teaching of the game here at the Yankees player development center, but how much he loves the game. âYou can tell he wants to succeed and he wants us to succeed,ââ Chamberlain told me. âHe just loves the game.ââ
Whether heâs pitching or coaching first base at a youth game.
