Following up on a blowout of the Falcons in last year’s playoffs, Aaron Rodgers threw for 396 yards and a pair of touchdowns to rally the Packers from an early 14-point hole, keeping Green Bay unbeaten with a 25-14 victory last night in Atlanta.
Rodgers connected with James Jones on a 70-yard touchdown that gave the Packers (5-0) their first lead late in the third. Then, on the first play of the fourth quarter, Rodgers connected with Greg Jennings on a 29-yard scoring play that stretched the lead to 22-14.
Chargers 29, Broncos 24
In Denver, Philip Rivers overcame an interception and a fourth-quarter fumble to lead the Chargers over the Broncos despite Tim Tebow’s best efforts to rally from a 16-point deficit.
Tebow threw for one touchdown and ran for another after replacing Kyle Orton to start the third quarter, and had one final shot for the win before his pass fell incomplete in the end zone on the final play.
Saints 30, Panthers 27
In Charlotte, Drew Brees found Pierre Thomas wide open on the right side for a 6-yard touchdown with 50 seconds left to lift the Saints (4-1). Brees threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns.
Chiefs 28, Colts 24
In Indianapolis, Matt Cassel threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns, and the Chiefs scored the final 21 points against the winless Colts. Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston each caught two TDs for the Chiefs (2-3).
Steelers 38, Titans 17
In Pittsburgh, Ben Roethlisberger tied a team record with five touchdown passes — including two to Hines Ward. Roethlisberger appeared to have no issues with his sprained left foot as the Steelers (3-2) ended the 3-2 Titans’ three-game winning streak.
49ers 48, Bucs 3
In San Francisco, Alex Smith threw two of his three touchdown passes to Vernon Davis, and the 49ers improved to 4-1, their best start in nine years. Josh Freeman was 17 of 33 with two interceptions for the Bucs (3-2).
Vikings 34, Cardinals 10
In Minneapolis, Adrian Peterson powered in for three first-quarter TDs to build a lead large enough even the Vikings (1-4) couldn’t lose it. Kevin Kolb had three turnovers for the Cardinals (1-4).
Bengals 30, Jaguars 20
In Jacksonville, Andy Dalton threw two touchdown passes and Bernard Scott scored the go-ahead score with 1:56 remaining as the Bengals (3-2) took down the Jaguars (1-4).
