Former Iona coach Jeff Ruland has accepted the head-coaching position with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBADL.

“Thrilled to be back in coaching, because it’s my passion,” said Ruland. “It’s a great franchise with great ownership and support.”

The New Mexico franchise is affiliated with the Phoenix Suns and the Philadelphia 76ers, where Ruland had some of his best seasons as a pro. Ruland was fired at Iona following a 2-28 record, despite leading the Gaels to three MAAC conference titles.
