Fabio Grosso’s return to Italy on Tuesday was the biggest signing coup on the last day of summer transfer window. The deal — which is reportedly worth $2.5 million — took the 2006 World Cup-winning defender from Lyon to Juventus, the Italian press agency ANSA reported.

The 31-year-old left back tallied the game-winning goal in the semifinals of the 2006 World Cup in overtime against Germany. He then netted the decisive PK in the final against France in Berlin to lead Italy to a fourth World Cup title. Grosso joined Lyon in 2007 and played in 52 league matches over two seasons. He scored twice to help Lyon to the 2008 league title.

Another World Cup champ, Italy defender Cristian Zaccardo, joined Parma from German club Wolfsburg, while Torino’s Swiss midfielder Blerim Dzemaili also moved over to the club on a one-year loan deal.

Other moves in Serie A just before the the transfer window closed were former Italy midfielder Manuele Blasi’s return to Palermo from Napoli and midfielder Daniele Dessena’s transfer from Cagliari to Genoa-based Sampdoria.
