AC Milan will travel to Catania on Sunday in the belief that they can pull off the impossible and win the Serie A title.

Milan, currently in second place, have made up seven points on Inter over the last three games and are now just seven points behind their city rivals with five games left. Inter, who lost their third game of the season at Napoli on Sunday, have appeared to be a lock for a fourth straight title. Inter’s home game Saturday against an in-form Lazio could make-or-break their title hopes.

At the same time, Milan are on a high and looking to let Inter coach Jose Mourinho eat his words when he recently said that the Rossoneri would win “zero titles” this season. Those words could come to haunt “The Special One” should Milan close the gap even further this weekend.

Mourinho does have his work cut out for him. The absences of Adriano and the injured Maicon have restricted Mourinho’s options, while the suspensions of Dejan Stankovic and Mario Balotelli do not help matters.

Meanwhile, the David Beckham-led Milan squad are riding high.

“I would like to think that in a few weeks, Mourinho will regret talking about the zero titles of Milan even if at the time it was difficult for us to dream of the scudetto,” Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini said Thursday during a news conference.

When Milan lost 2-1 to Inter in February, they fell 11 points behind the league champs and the race for the Scudetto seemed all but over.

“While it is mathematically possible, we have to believe,” Kaka told reporters last weekend. “Anything can happen.”
