DENVER – For last night’s Game 4, the Diamondbacks benched second baseman Augie Ojeda and gave Jeff Cirillo a shot.
Ojeda was 2-for-12 with a pair of singles in the first three games, while Cirillo was 2-for-2.
Ojeda batted .444 in the NLDS, while Cirillo was hitless in his lone NLDS at-bat. During the season, Ojeda batted .274 with one home run and a solid .354 on-base percentage in 113 at-bats. Cirillo hit a combined .249 with two homers in 193 at-bats with the Diamondbacks and Twins.
Cirillo was hitting eighth, which is where Ojeda had been batting.

The Diamondbacks started rookie Micah Owings last night instead of pitching ace Brandon Webb on three days rest. Webb didn’t gripe about it.
“For one, I’ve never done it,” he said. “With the innings I’ve accumulated in the last couple of years, I’ve been leading the league in the innings, that’s another factor.”

Rockies manager Clint Hurdle on his team’s ridiculous 20 wins in 21 games heading into last night: “This may never happen again. You look at your history books, how many times has it happened so far? This is one of those things where you get everybody back 10, 20 years down the road and you have a reunion gig, I would think. Who knows?”

If the Rockies make the World Series, that would leave only four current MLB clubs that have never been there – the Devil Rays, Mariners, Rangers/Senators and Nationals/Expos.
