Soccer was supposed to be the sport of the ’70s, ’80 and ’90s. It would’ve been if it was America’s sport of the ’10s, ’20, ’30s and so forth.

As a TV sport, what separates baseball from soccer is history. Since baseball is the National Pastime, it’s been passed through generations. This leaves many Americans mocking soccer, not able to understand its appeal.

The rest of the world disagrees with the States, which is why most of the planet is tuned into Asia and the World Cup right now. In other countries, soccer has been handed (footed, really) from parents to children.

But as TV sports go, both only can be fully enjoyed if you understand the intricacies. Both are not as good as pure television sports like football or basketball.

Ultimately, baseball wins this matchup, but only because of history and understanding in the States. Take that out and soccer vs. baseball on TV would end nil-nil, an even matchup.
