NFL: Vikes’ McKinnie booted

Vikings offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie was dismissed from the NFC Pro Bowl team for unexcused absences. The NFL said McKinnie missed practice Friday and yesterday and is subject to a fine. This was the first Pro Bowl selection for McKinnie, whose Vikings lost to New Orleans in the NFC championship last Sunday.

* Former Redskins head coach Jim Zorn was hired by the Ravens to be their quarterbacks coach. Zorn takes over for Hue Jackson, who left to become offensive coordinator of the Raiders. Zorn was a quarterbacks coach with the Lions and Seahawks before being hired by the Redskins.

NBA: Miller torches Mavs for 52

In Dallas, Andre Miller scored a career-high 52 points, including 25 in the fourth quarter and overtime, and Juwan Howard hit a jumper with 44.8 seconds left to lift the Trail Blazers past the Mavericks 114-112.

Miller was 22 of 31 from the floor and hit 7 of 8 from the foul line as the Blazers snapped a three-game losing streak.

* In Orlando, Fla., Dwight Howard had 31 points and 19 rebounds and the Magic coasted to a 104-86 victory over the Hawks.

* In Memphis, Tenn., Darren Collison had 17 points and a career-high 18 assists starting in place of the injured Chris Paul and the Hornets defeated Memphis 109-102 in overtime, snapping the Grizzlies’ 11-game home winning streak.

* Rockets point guard Kyle Lowry will be out at least a week with a sprained left knee sustained in Friday’s win over Portland.

OLYMPICS: Vonn’s streak ends

In St. Moritz, Switzerland, Lindsey Vonn‘s perfect downhill season ended when her ski hit a hole and she finished fifth in a World Cup race won by Maria Riesch of Germany. Vonn had six straight wins including the final downhill race of last season.

* In Aspen, Colo., 2006 Olympic silver medalist Gretchen Bleiler won the Winter X Games superpipe contest, edging out 2002 Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark in an upset. Defending Olympic gold medalist Hannah Teter finished third.

MMA: Herschel wins debut

In Sunrise, Fla., former NFL star Herschel Walker stopped Hungarian fighter Greg Nagy in the third round to win his mixed-martial arts debut.

Walker drove Nagy into the fence early in the third. After a flurry of punches, referee Troy Waugh called the fight. “The experience was exciting,” Walker said. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

ETC.: Lemieux bid for Pirates

The Pirates declined to listen to separate proposals to buy the team last year, including one from Penguins owner and hockey great Mario Lemieux, officials with knowledge of the talks said.

* A 62-year-old Swedish ice hockey referee died after being hit in the back of the head by a puck during a junior game.

* In Doha, Qatar, England’s Paul Casey shot a 6-under 66 for a share of the Qatar Masters lead with Wales’ Bradley Dredge at 10-under 206.
