COLLEGE: UConn beats No. 3 ‘Nova
In Philadelphia, Kemba Walker scored a career-high 29 points and Connecticut continued the four-day run of Big East top 10 upsets, beating No. 3 Villanova 84-75.
* In College Station, Texas, Xavier Henry scored 12 points, including several free throws down the stretch, to help top-ranked Kansas escape with a 59-54 win over No. 24 Texas A&M. It was the 11th consecutive victory for Kansas (25-1, 11-0 Big 12) and broke a 16-game home winning streak for Texas A&M (18-7, 7-4).
* In Jersey City, Jonathon Thompson scored 21 points and Rider defeated Saint Peter’s, 72-66. Thompson moved into fifth on the Broncs’ all-time scoring list with 1,771. Jeron Belin scored 15 for Saint Peter’s.
* In Norman, Okla., Tiffany Hayes scored 20 points and the top-ranked Connecticut women’s basketball team got a rare second-half scare before pulling away to beat No. 11 Oklahoma 76-60 and extend its unbeaten streak to 65 games.
CYCLING: Landis wanted in France
A French judge issued a national arrest warrant for U.S. cyclist Floyd Landis in connection with a case of data hacking at a doping laboratory dating to September 2006, a prosecutor’s office said. The laboratory near Paris had uncovered abnormally elevated testosterone levels in Landis’ samples collected in the run-up to his 2006 Tour de France victory, leading to the eventual loss of his medal. Landis denied the hacking allegations in an e-mail to the Los Angeles Times.
NBA: Brown: MJ wants Bobcats ‘badly’
Bobcats coach Larry Brown said Michael Jordan is doing everything he can to become the majority owner of the club in his home state. Brown said that Jordan “wants it badly” and is hopeful he’ll soon be running the franchise. NBA commissioner David Stern said Saturday he expects a deal to be completed within two months.
* Allen Iverson returned to the 76ers after missing five games to be with his ill daughter and expects to play tonight.
ETC.: Endy signs on with Rangers
Former Mets outfielder Endy Chavez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rangers that includes an invitation to spring training. Chavez is recovering from knee surgery last July and is not expected to be fully healthy for the start of the regular season.
* Seven years after leaving Manchester United, David Beckham faces the team for the first time when AC Milan hosts the three-time winners in the Champions League. “It’s one of the biggest games for me,” Beckham said.
* The day after American-based BMW Oracle Racing won the America’s Cup, team CEO Russell Coutts said the syndicate hasn’t had time to begin making plans for the 34th America’s Cup.
