NBA: Nuggets coach Karl has cancer
Nuggets coach George Karl said he has been diagnosed with neck and throat cancer but was told it is treatable. Karl said he started a six-week treatment that includes chemotherapy yesterday, and the treatment could cause him to miss games and practices. Karl was treated for prostate cancer in 2005.
* The Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (sprained left ankle) sat out for a fourth straight game, missing last night’s contest against the Warriors. He hasn’t played since Feb. 5.
COLLEGE: Rutgers wins second straight
Hamady Ndiaye had 15 points and 13 rebounds last as Rutgers overcame a 17-point deficit and snapped a 17-game road losing streak with a 68-64 victory at DePaul.
Mike Rosario had eight of his 11 points down the stretch for Rutgers (14-12 overall, 4-9 Big East), which backed up its upset of Georgetown.
* In Newark, Del., Charles Jenkins scored 30 points and had seven rebounds to lead Hofstra to an 82-69 victory over Delaware (15-13, 8-8 Colonial).
* Dana Kirk, who coached the Memphis State Tigers to a 1985 Final Four appearance that was vacated because of NCAA violations, died Monday in Memphis. He was 74.
ETC.: Raiders make Janikowski richest kicker
Sebastian Janikowski and the Raiders agreed on a $16 million, four-year deal that is the richest contract for a kicker in NFL history.
* Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen, considered the top quarterback in this year’s NFL draft, won’t throw in the scouting combine next week in Indianapolis because he isn’t fully recovered from offseason toe surgery, Clausen told Sirius Radio. Clausen hopes to be ready instead to work out for scouts at a campus pro day in April. –Bart Hubbuch * Jewish 154-pound champion Yuri Foreman hopes to defend his title against former welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium on June 5, promoter Bob Arum said.
* Jack Curry, a highly regarded ex-New York Times baseball writer, will soon be added to the Yankees’ pre and post-game shows on YES, The Post has learned. Curry, who has shown a relaxed presence in his many TV appearances as a newspaperman, will join incumbents Bob Lorenz and Kim Jones. — Phil Mushnick
