NBA: Lakers rally past Nuggets

In Los Angeles, Lamar Odom scored nine of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and the Lakers overcame an 11-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Nuggets, 95-89. Kobe Bryant was just 3 for 17 from the field, finishing with 14 points.

* In Orlando, Rashard Lewis had 22 points and Vince Carter had 17 to help the Magic to a 96-80 win over the Heat, who returned Dwyane Wade from a four-game absence. . . . Dirk Nowitzki scored 36 points as the Mavericks extended their NBA-high winning streak to seven games with a 108-100 victory over the Hornets.

* The Timberwolves suspended center Al Jefferson for the next two games without pay after his arrest early yesterday on suspicion of DWI.

COLLEGE: Spartans knock off No. 3 Purdue

In West Lafayette, Ind., Raymar Morgan had 16 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 14 Michigan State beat No. 3 Purdue, 53-44. Purdue’s loss, in its first game since losing versatile forward Robbie Hummel, came on the heels of losses by No. 1 Kansas and No. 2 Kentucky on Saturday.

* In Charlottesville, Va., Kyle Singler scored 21 points as No. 5 Duke beat shorthanded Virginia 67-49 to stay in first place in the ACC.

* In Storrs, Conn., Edgar Sosa‘s layup with eight seconds left gave Louisville a 78-76 victory over UConn. . . . In Baltimore, Manhattan lost 71-59 to Loyola (Md.).

GOLF: Mahan charges to Phoenix Open title

In Scottsdale, Ariz., Hunter Mahan won the Phoenix Open, coming from four strokes back to beat Rickie Fowler by a shot. . . . In Singapore, Ai Miyazato won the HSBC Champions to become the first LPGA Tour player in 44 years to sweep the first two events of a season.

NASCAR: Johnson wins second straight

In Las Vegas, Jimmie Johnson won his second straight race by passing teammate Jeff Gordon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gordon led 218 of the 267 laps, but he took just two tires on the final pit stop and it cost him the victory.
