Patriots receiver Wes Welker was removed from the physically unable to perform list and placed on the active roster, seven months after tearing ligaments in his knee. Welker practiced with the club, running pass patterns and participating in non-contact drills.
* Albert Haynesworth‘s sore left knee kept him from taking the Redskins’ conditioning test once again, forcing him to sit out practice for the fourth straight day. The two-time All-Pro defensive tackle won’t be allowed to practice until he passes the test, which he failed on Thursday and Friday.
* Broncos running backs Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter both were injured on the first day of training camp. Moreno was carted off the field after hurting his right leg, and Buckhalter injured his left leg minutes later.
* First-round draft picks running back Ryan Mathews of the Chargers and defensive tackle Tyson Alualu of the Jaguars agreed to five-year contracts.
MLB: Ozzie rant about Asians
