FRENCH OPEN: Sharapova ousted
Maria Sharapova never recovered from a slow start against Ana Ivanovic, a Serbian teenager who soared to a 6-2, 6-1 victory yesterday in the women’s semifinals of the French Open in Paris. Justine Henin beat Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 6-2 in the other semifinal to advance into tomorrow’s final.
On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic faces two-time defending champion Rafael Nadal in today’s semfinals. Also, No. 1 Roger Federer, trying to complete a career Grand Slam, meets No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko .
VICK PROBE: Feds search QB’s home
Federal law enforcement officials descended on a home owned by Michael Vick yesterday in Surry, Va., armed with a search warrant that suggests they’re taking over an investigation into the Falcons quarterback’s possible involvement in dog fighting.
More than a dozen vehicles went to the home early in the afternoon and investigators searched inside before turning their attention to the area where officials found dozens of dogs in late April and evidence that suggested the home was involved in a dog-fighting operation.
GOLF: Kim tied for LPGA lead
Former U.S. Women’s Open champion Birdie Kim shot a 5-under 67, leaving her atop the leaderboard with Angela Park and Kim Saiki-Maloney at the LPGA Championship in Havre de Grace, Md. Annika Sorenstam shot a 70, one shot ahead of Lorena Ochoa. * With only seven players breaking par, Adam Scott shot a 3-under 67 for a share of the lead with Fredrik Jacobson in the toughest opening round ever in the Stanford St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
HOOPS: Gators re-sign Donovan
Billy Donovan apologized yesterday to the Orlando Magic, his family and the Florida Gators for changing his mind about joining the NBA coaching ranks. Instead, he’ll rejoin Florida with a new six-year contract worth $3.5 million per year.

SOCCER: U.S. wins tourney opener
Clint Dempsey s first-half goal gave the struggling U.S. a 1-0 victory over Guatemala in the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup last night in Carson, Calif.
Bob Bradley won his first competitive game as coach of the national team, but his players were outplayed in the second half against what should have been an overmatched opponent. The U.S. team plays Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow.
