MLS: Red Bulls tie again
Milton Caraglio and Dane Richards scored two goals apiece and the Red Bulls and Revolution drew 2-2 last night in Foxborough, Mass.
Caraglio scored in the 15th and 37th minutes to give New England a 2-0 lead at halftime, but Richards answered in the 54th and 87th to get the Red Bulls the road point.
WNBA: Storm beat Liberty
Lauren Jackson scored 20 points in her return from a hip injury to help the Storm rally for a 63-62 victory over the Liberty in Seattle.
Plenette Pierson had 15 points for the Liberty (15-12) and Essence Carson added 12.
NCAA: Sooners No. 1
Oklahoma will start out top-ranked in The Associated Press college football poll for the 10th time, more than any program in the country. The defending Big 12 champions received 36 of 60 first-place votes and 1,464 points in the Top 25. Auburn, last season’s national champion, will start the season No. 23. No. 2 Alabama wasn’t far behind OU, receiving 17 first-place votes and 1,439 points. No. 3 Oregon got four first-place votes, No. 4 LSU received one and No. 5 Boise State two.
* LSU coach Les Miles said players have “been involved in behavior that’s unacceptable to me” after starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and several unidentified teammates were implicated in a fight at a Baton Rouge bar early Friday. No charges have been filed, nor have there been any arrests.
MLB: Royals top Bosox
In Kansas City, Mo., Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer each drove in two runs in an eight-run sixth inning to help the Royals rally to beat the Red Sox, 9-4.
LLWS: Pa. blanks R.I.
In South Williamsport, Pa., Alex Garbrick held Cumberland, R.I., to three hits before reaching his pitch-count limit and Wyatt Koch added a key two-out RBI single in the fifth to lift Clinton County, Pa., to a 2-0 victory at the Little League World Series.
* In other games, Warner Robins, Ga. held off Rapid City, S.D., 6-3; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, earned a 4-2 victory over Rotterdam, Netherlands to stay alive and Kaohsiung, Taiwan also avoided elimination with a 20-3 victory over Oranjestad, Aruba.
