HOOPS: Liberty face must-win Game 2
After Thursday night’s 74-72 loss on the road in Indiana, the Liberty find themselves facing elimination today when they host the Fever (4 p.m., MSG) at the Prudential Center in Newark, down 1-0 in the best-of-three Eastern Conference semifinals. The Liberty are 12-5 at home, and beat the Fever there last week, 83-75. –David Satriano
* Defending champion Spain beat Macedonia and France got past Russia to advance to play for the European basketball title tomorrow.
GOLF: Wilson, Rose share BMW lead
In Lemont, Ill., Mark Wilson (66) and Justin Rose (68) are tied for the lead at 11-under 131 going into the weekend at the BMW Championship. They had a two-shot lead over Webb Simpson, the leader in the FedEx Cup.
* In Prattville, Ala., 16-year-old Lexi Thompson shot a 4-under 68 to take a two-shot lead at 10-under 134 after two rounds of the Navistar LPGA Classic.
* Jack Nicklaus said Tiger Woods can still beat his record of 18 major championships — “if he gets the five inches between his ears squared out.”

Red Bulls star captain Thierry Henry (Achilles tendon) and forward Luke Rodgers (plantar fasciitis) are listed as game-time decisions for tonight’s must-have road game in Dallas (8:30 p.m., MSG). The Red Bulls are mired in an eight-game winless skid that caused them to fall out of playoff position. –Brian Lewis * Rafael Nadal helped Spain to a 2-0 start against France in the Davis Cup semifinals by routing Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 in Cordoba, Spain. Defending champion Serbia, playing without Novak Djokovic, who was a late withdrawal with an ailing back, trailed Argentina 2-0 in Belgrade.
* In East Hartford, Conn., Connecticut blew a 10-0 lead as Iowa State rallied for a 24-20 win. Scott McCummings, one of UConn’s three quarterbacks, ran for a touchdown and threw for another for the Huskies (1-2). . . . Kellen Moore threw for 455 yards and five touchdowns to lead No. 4 Boise State to a 40-15 win over host Toledo. . . . Syracuse and Pittsburgh are in talks with the ACC about leaving the Big East to join the league, The New York Times reported.
