SOCCER: Red Bulls snap skid
Playing without injured striker Thierry Henry, who was left home to rest an inflamed Achilles tendon, the Red Bulls ended their eight-match winless streak last night with a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas in Frisco, Texas.
Luke Rodgers’ first-half goal helped the Red Bulls win for the first time since June 6.

In Lemont, Ill., Justin Rose pulled away with a 2-under 69 to take a four-shot lead over John Senden in the BMW Championship.
* In Prattville, Ala., teenager Lexi Thompson shot a 5-under 67 in the Navistar LPGA Classic and is in position to become the youngest player to win an LPGA tournament.
Thompson, 16, is at 15-under 201 and has a five-stroke lead heading into the final round.
AUTO: Kenseth earns pole for Chase opener
In Joliet, Ill., Matt Kenseth will open the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship on the pole at Chicagoland Speedway.

NHL: McCrimmon laid to rest
Brad McCrimmon was remembered as an imposing physical presence and loving family man at his funeral in Farmington, Mich. .
McCrimmon, 52, died in the crash of a chartered jet in western Russia that took the lives of 28 Lokomotiv Yaroslavl players, two coaches and seven other staff members on Sept. 7. McCrimmon. a former NHL player and coach, was hired as Locomotiv’s head coach in May.
* Sidney Crosby, who missed the second half of last season after suffering a concussion, skated alongside his Penguins teammates as the club opened training camp.
