Golf: Donald wins, reclaims No. 1 ranking

Luke Donald took the top spot in the world ranking from Rory McIlroy for the third time in 10 weeks, successfully defending his title in the BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England. Donald won the European Tour’s flagship event by four strokes, closing with a 4-under 68 to finish at 15-under 273. Scotland’s Paul Lawrie and England’s Justin Rose tied for second.

Roger Chapman won the Senior PGA Championship, holding on for a two-stroke victory over John Cook in Benton Harbor, Mich. Hale Irwin finished third.

AUTOS: Webber wins Monaco Grand Prix

Mark Webber won the Monaco Grand Prix from the pole yesterday while third-place finisher Fernando Alonso moved narrowly into the championship lead.

Webber, who finished ahead of Nico Rosberg, is the sixth different driver to win in the opening six races of the season, a first for Formula One. Alonso, who is bidding for his third F-1 title, holds a three-point lead over Webber and two-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel.

NFL: Lions’ Fairley arrested in Alabama

Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley has been arrested in Alabama on charges of driving under the influence and attempting to elude police, his second arrest in his home state in two months. Alabama state troopers said the 24-year-old passed a state trooper early yesterday morning at 100 mph in his Cadillac Escalade in unincorporated Mobile County. Fairley also was arrested April 3 in Mobile on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge.

ETC.: O’s sign Jones to 6-year deal

Adam Jones signed a six-year, $85.5 million contract with the Orioles, ensuring that the 26-year-old center fielder will stay with the team through 2018.

Taylor Thornton scored the winning goal with 9:55 left and Northwestern won its seventh NCAA women’s lacrosse championship in eight years, beating Syracuse 8-6 last night in Stony Brook.
