LLWS: Tokyo beats Calif. for crown
In South Williamsport, Pa., Ryusei Hirooka lined a decisive two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning, Shunpei Takagi hit two solo home runs, and Tokyo beat Chula Vista, Calif., 6-4 yesterday to win the Little League World Series.
Giancarlo Cortez had a two-run single and Grant Holman an RBI single for Chula Vista.
Tijuana, Mexico held off Westport, Conn., 15-14 in the consolation game. Chad Knight had two home runs and drove in seven runs, Harry Azadian had a three-run homer, and Matt Brown and Matt Stone had solo shots for Connecticut.
NFL: Bills sign Leinart; Kolb in peril
Free-agent quarterback Matt Leinart signed with the Bills, who later added quarterback Thaddeus Lewis in a trade that sent linebacker Chris White to Detroit.
The transactions follow reports that the Bills consider Kevin Kolb to have suffered a career-threatening concussion in Saturday’s preseason game.

MLS: Bad beat for Red Bulls
In Carson, Calif., Erick Torres scored two goals, the first on a penalty kick, and Chivas USA beat the Red Bulls 3-2.
Tim Cahill and Dax McCarty scored for the Red Bulls (11-9-6), both off Thierry Henry’s assists. Chivas (5-14-6) hadn’t scored more than one goal in a game since April 27, a span of 16 games.
WNBA: Liberty stay in playoff race
In Uncasville, Conn., Plenette Pierson scored 18 points and the Liberty kept their playoff hopes alive with 74-66 win over the Sun. Cappie Pondexter scored 14 points and Katie Smith added 13 for the Liberty (11-16), who moved within a game of Indiana for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Two-time champion mare Royal Delta routed four opponents Sunday at Saratoga Race Course, drawing away in the stretch to win the Personal Ensign Invitational by 4 1/2 lengths.
Ridden by Mike Smith and trained by Bill Mott, the 5-year-old Royal Delta She ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.34 and $3.10, $2.10 and $2.10. She earned $360,000 for owner Besilu Stable.
Runner-up Authenticity returned $2.40 and $2.10, and Centring paid $2.10 to show.
