NBA: Hawks new coach pulled over

Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer has apologized for his arrest on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge.

According to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, Budenholzer , a longtime Spurs assistant who was hired in June was pulled over at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in Atlanta for not having working taillights. Trooper J. Nelms said Budenholzer had bloodshot and watery eyes “and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.”

The Suns have traded small forward Caron Butler to the Bucks for point guard Ish Smith and center Viacheslav Kravstov.

MLB: Longtime ump Pulli dead at age 78

Longtime major league umpire Frank Pulli died yesterday in Palm Harbor, Fla., from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Pulli, 78. umpired in the National League from 1972-99 and worked four World Series, six NL championship series and two All-Star Games.

Former Red Sox second baseman Jerry Remy won’t return to the team’s broadcast booth this season. Remy said in a statement released by the team’s TV network lit isn’t the time for him to come back. Remy’s 34-year-old son, Jared, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and domestic assault in the stabbing death of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel.

SOCCER: Donovan returns to U.S. national team

With Landon Donovan back in the fold, the U.S. resumes World Cup qualifying next week with its deepest team yet.

Donovan was among 23 players selected by coach Jurgen Klinsmann for upcoming qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico. Klinsmann snubbed the Americans’ career scoring leader for the last round of qualifiers.

ETC.: Louisville to play Fairfield at Mohegan Sun

Fairfield University announced its 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule which includes a Nov. 23 game against defending national champion Louisville at Mohegan Sun Arena.

In Portland, Ore., Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum shot an 8-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead over Lexi Thompson after the first round of the Safeway Classic.
