NFL: Bush out for Saints

Saints running back Reggie Bush will not play tomorrow night in Atlanta because of a knee injury.

He had been listed as questionable after an MRI this week indicated a partially torn left knee ligament. The team did not comment about Bush’s prospects for the rest of the season.

* Rams quarterback Marc Bulger will not play this weekend after suffering a setback in his recovery from a concussion, the Rams announced. The team also said Brock Berlin, who has never attempted a pass in a regular-season game, would start today at Cincinnati.

Todd Bouman, signed by the team on Friday, will be the No. 2 quarterback against the Bengals. Gus Frerotte (torn right labrum) will be the emergency QB.

* Colts wideout Marvin Harrison will be out for the eighth time in nine games with a knee injury when Indianapolis plays the Ravens.

GOLF: Austin, Calc lead Shootout

Woody Austin and Mark Calcavecchia shot a 12-under 60 in best-ball play yesterday to take a two-stroke lead (20-under, 124) over tournament host Greg Norman and Bubba Watson after the second round of the Merrill Lynch Shootout in Naples, Fla.

Calcavecchia made a 5-foot eagle putt on the par-5 17th hole on the Norman-designed Tiburon Golf Club course.

* In Malelane, South Africa, Ernie Els shot a bogey-free 64 yesterday to take a two-stroke lead (13-under, 203) over Lee Slattery after the third round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which featured holes-in-one by Joost Luiten, and Oliver Wilson .

* In Coolum, Australia, South Africa’s Rory Sabbatini birdied the 18th hole to break out of a six-way tie and take a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Australian PGA with a 5-under 67 for a 14-under 202 total.

* In Perth, Australia, Se Ri Pak and In-Kyung Kim held off Annika Sorenstam and Catriona Matthew in the final best-ball match yesterday to give Asia a 91/2-2½ lead over the International team in the Lexus Cup.

NCAA: Navy names new coach

Navy wasted little time finding a new football coach, promoting assistant head coach and offensive line coach Ken Niumatalolo yesterday to replace Paul Johnson, who left Friday to take over at Georgia Tech.

* In Carbondale, Ill., Joe Flacco threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, helping No. 13 Delaware (11-3) to a 20-17 victory over fourth-ranked Southern Illinois (12-2), advancing the Blue Hens to the Football Championship Subdivision title game next Friday against Appalachian State (12-2).

* In Alliance, Ohio, quarterback Greg Micheli passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mount Union (13-0) to a 62-14 victory over Bethel (12-2) that sent the two-time defending champion Raiders to the Division III national championship game for the 11th time in 15 years.

In the 35th annual Stagg Bowl next Saturday, Mount Union will face Wisconsin-Whitewater (13-1), which got a TD run and pass from Danny Jones in a 16-7 semifinal victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor (12-2).
