FOOTBALL: McFadden turning pro
Darren McFadden isn’t sticking around for another run at the Heisman Trophy. The two-time runner-up announced yesterday he’ll skip his senior season at Arkansas and enter the NFL draft. Felix Jones, the Razorbacks’ other talented tailback, said he’ll also skip his senior season.
Also declaring for the draft were Michigan WR Mario Manningham, Oklahoma LB Curtis Lofton and Florida State QB Xavier Lee . . . Rutgers CB Courtney Greene, Virginia Tech CB Victor Harris and Ohio State LB James Laurinaitis will return for their senior years. The deadline for underclassmen to declare is today.
* Redskins assistant Gregg Williams interviewed again for the team’s coaching vacancy. The team also was planning to speak to Seahawks assistant Jim Mora and Colts assistants Jim Caldwell and Ron Meeks . . . Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett reportedly will interview with the Falcons and Ravens.
NBA: LeBron nailed for speeding
LeBron James acknowledged he was ticketed for driving 101 mph on Dec. 30 in suburban Cleveland. When asked if he will continue traveling at such speed, he said: “I don’t know, maybe at times. It’s not a big deal to me. I’m not going to jail or nothing like that. I wasn’t drunk. I was just speeding. That’s it.”
* Cavaliers coach Mike Brown received a two-year contract extension yesterday that will keep him with the club through the 2010-11 season . . . Nuggets coach George Karl doesn’t know when Nene will return. The Brazilian forward took an indefinite leave of absence on Friday.
BASEBALL: Brewers sign Cameron
Mike Cameron, facing a 25-game suspsension for testing positive for a banned stimulant, and the Brewers completed a $7 million, one-year contract yesterday after reaching an agreement last week pending a physical for the 35-year-old outfielder . . . The Cardinals and Blue Jays finalized the trade that sent Scott Rolen to Toronto for Troy Glaus . . . The Braves completed a trade for center fielder Mark Kotsay, dealing reliever Joey Devine and minor league pitcher Jamie Richmond to the Athletics . . . Chris Shelton was cut by the Rangers yesterday, just more than a month after they acquired him in a trade with Detroit for outfielder Freddy Guzman.
