NFL: Colts part ways with Harrison
The Colts released Marvin Harrison, ending the star receiver’s 13-year stay with the team. Colts owner Jim Irsay announced the move yesterday after meeting with Harrison, 36, in a final effort to re-sign him.
* Former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left foot on Saturday, told NFL Network there was only a 50-50 chance he would run at his personal workout next month in Lubbock, Texas.
* Kurt Warner‘s agent says he expected the quarterback and the Cardinals would have a contract agreement by now and that Warner deserves a salary among the top “four or five” quarterbacks in the league.
* The Chiefs cut linebacker Donnie Edwards, quarterback Damon Huard and cornerback Patrick Surtain.
MLB: Griffey finalizes deal with M’s
Ken Griffey Jr. could get a total of $5 million this year in his return to the Mariners – an additional $3 million in performance bonuses based upon plate appearances and attendance on top of $2 million in base salary.
* The Athletics have scrapped their plans to move to Fremont. Team owner Lew Wolff told city officials in a letter that the A’s have stopped all plans to build a new stadium in the East Bay suburb.
* After spending his entire 15-year career with the Angels, Garret Anderson completed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Braves.
ETC.: Phelps plans May return to pool
Olympic champion Michael Phelps will return from his three-month suspension at the 25th annual Charlotte UltraSwim meeting from May 14-17, organizers said.
* Rutgers coach Greg Schiano is giving up his defensive coordinator duties, promoting two assistants to share the defensive coordinator role.
* The U.S. Davis Cup team will go with its regular lineup of Andy Roddick, James Blake and the doubles team of twins Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan for its opening-round match March 6-8 in Birmingham against Switzerland, which will be without Roger Federer.
