COLLEGE: Paulus to play at Syracuse

After a rocky basketball career at Duke, Greg Paulus announced yesterday that he would play football at Syracuse next year. Paulus, who was a star quarterback at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse before choosing to play point guard at Duke over football scholarships from places like Notre Dame, will have a chance to compete for the starting job under new head coach Doug Marrone. He has one year of eligibility remaining. “I know not many people have done this, and having that type of opportunity and challenge is something that excites me and motivates me,” Paulus said.

NFL: Favre consults famed Dr. Andrews

Comeback-considering former Jets quarterback Brett Favre consulted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews about the partially torn biceps tendon in his throwing shoulder, including non-surgical solutions, according to an ESPN report.

* Bills running back Marshawn Lynch filed an appeal with the NFL contesting his suspension without pay for the first three games of the season.
