James Johnson scored 22 points, Ike Azotam had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Quinnipiac defeated host St. Francis of Brooklyn 80-72 last night in a Northeast Conference tournament quarterfinal.
St. Francis, which trailed 41-31 at halftime, rallied in the second half behind Brent Jones (21 points), Ben Mockford (17) and Stefan Perunicic (11). The Terriers (15-15) drew within a point, 49-48, on two free throws and a 3-pointer by Perunicic. But Quinnipiac went on a 9-0 run and was never threatened.
The Bobcats (18-12) will play top-seeded LIU-Brooklyn (22-8) in Sunday’s semifinals.
Travis Nichols scored 12 points for St. Francis.
