Former St. Michael Academy star Jelleah Sidney, one of the top senior forwards in the country, committed to play women’s basketball at Syracuse today, she told The Post.
Five of Sidney’s former teammates – either at St. Mike’s or with the Exodus AAU program – already play for the Orange.
“It played a big part in my decision,” said Sidney, who will be attending prep school at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla., this year. “I trust them. They’re like family. They really love it there.”
The 6-foot-1 Sidney, a Queens Village native and ranked in the top 40 among forwards in her class by recruiting outlets, helped lead St. Mike’s to its first New York State Federation Class AA title last year. She reclassified to the Class of 2010 after tearing both ACLs early in her high school career. Kentucky was also in the running for her services.
“She’s going to bring toughness and versatility up there,” St. Mike’s and Exodus coach Apache Paschall said. “I’ve always said she’s like a woman version of Ron Artest.”
Sidney’s Exodus teammate, Bria Hartley of North Babylon (L.I.), also committed to UConn today.
