SARATOGA SPRINGS — Mike Repole’s Stay Thirsty, who will be favored for Saturday’s 142nd Travers Stakes off his four-length romp in the Jim Dandy, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.73 yesterday with Javier Castellano up.

Working in company with the stakes filly Super Espresso, Stay Thirsty went in fractions of :12.87, :24.66 and :36.84.

“It was almost an identical work to what he did before the Jim Dandy,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “A good, steady progressive 1:01 and change with a strong gallop out, moving really well.

“He seems to have really flourished since we have been up here. Based on the work this morning, I would say he is as good as he was [going into the Jim Dandy], if not better going into [the Travers].”

Pletcher also sent Stay Thirsty’s stablemate Uncle Mo out for a five-furlong breeze, in preparation for the 2-year-old champion’s long-awaited return in the seven-furlong King’s Bishop on the Travers undercard. Unraced since finishing third at 1-9 in the April 9 Wood Memorial, Uncle Mo went in :59.25 under John Velazquez, in company with stakes winner Turbo Compressor. The splits were :12.47, :24.31 and :36.01.

“I thought it was another very good work,” Pletcher said of Uncle Mo, who’s had six workouts since recovering from a mysterious liver ailment that knocked him out of the Kentucky Derby. “He finished up good and galloped out strongly, so I think we are right on schedule. Based on the workmates he has been breezing with, all indications are he is a very fit horse.”
