Steiner Sports Memorabilia, the collectibles company contracted by the Mets and Yankees, Wednesday offered an online special: If one purchased a baseball autographed by a player whose name appeared in the Mitchell Report, they “will receive a FREE $50 online gift certificate!”

Yesterday, Steiner offered an e-mail apology “to those who were offended,” calling the Mitchell investigation “into performance-enhancing drugs in MLB a serious matter that we fully support.” Steiner added though the offer expired, it will be honored to those who bought in.

In the past, Steiner offered the special sale of Kirby Puckett autographs – moments after Puckett died – sold opening-day dirt from Shea and Yankee stadiums and held online auctions of Yankees and Mets postseason tickets.
