HONG KONG — Chelsea striker Fernando Torres insisted Tuesday that he can still remember how to find the back of the net, after scoring just one goal since moving to the London soccer club midway through the past English Premier League (EPL) season.

The misfiring Spanish hitman scored just one goal after moving from Liverpool to Chelsea in a record $82 million (£50 million) switch, and he appeared to be badly off the pace.

“I’m 27. Don’t worry, I don’t forget to score goals … I will score,” the World Cup winner was quoted as saying by AFP during the club’s preseason tour to Hong Kong. “It’s going to be a big season. My form is OK. It’s time to be fit and ready.”

Torres said that Chelsea was pulling out all the stops ahead of what looks set to be an ultra-competitive EPL season starting next month. Chelsea aims to recapture its crown from Manchester United and also see off a challenge from big-spending Manchester City.

“We’re trying to get into the best form. We have got big expectations, and I can see the winning mentality we have,” Torres said.
