Defender Titus Bramble will play for Sunderland in an away game against Liverpool in the English Premier League (EPL) Saturday after being bailed by police investigating an allegation of rape, officials said Thursday.
The center-back, 29, has been supported by Sunderland manager Steve Bruce and chairman Niall Quinn, who are “100 percent certain” of his innocence after he and his brother Tesfaye Bramble, 30, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with an alleged incident at a Newcastle hotel.
“He wants to play … he wants to go and put the record straight,” Bruce said.
“We want the case resolved and I just want to reiterate what Niall said: that we are all behind him, we are all 100 percent convinced that he has got nothing to do with this allegation and we will get on with it and hope the conclusion comes quickly.
“He wants to just go and play and forget about it. It’s unfortunate, what has happened, but he plays, it’s as simple as that.”
