By KERNAN

Big day for me, I get to see Victor Zambrano pitch again over in Dunedin. Who cares about the high school breakup of A-Rod and Jetes?

Walking along Clearwater Beach at sunset, came across Mr. and Mrs. Snowman, two excellent sand sculptures.

They do have a sense of humor down here about the weather.

Let’s clean up some mail.

I love the 68 Guns and Radar Love suggestions and will try them both on my next bolt across this state.

Tim, I only wish it were a Mustang. I have an alleged mid-size. Brian, you are not going to sell me on the Swamp Cabbage Festival. Next year I’ll plan it so I’m actually swamping at the festival.

Small towns do create large men, though.

Andy, I’m glad the blog could warm up your day. That’s what I’m trying to do, take the reader where I go. As for helpful comments from What’s Your Name …

I do it this way because, as my friend Jackie-O says, “Somebody gave me the job.’’

But, you may be half right, so, as you noticed, I dropped the first name for this entry. I kind of like it that way: Kernan. And you are right, my name, Kevin Kernan, is at the bottom of the posting. But now you can call me Kernan. Thanks again for the help.

The prettiest picture here in Clearwater was the sun dropping into the gulf, creating this amazing orange glow that the Frozen People can only dream about right.

The neatest picture, though, was when I walked out of the Phillies clubhouse and there on the sun-splashed field was ex-Yankee Jon Lieber playing baseball with his three young kids.

All spring training complexes have at least four fields, one field is devoted to infielders, and so the outfield on that field is just a strip of grass, kind of like a Little League field. That’s the field Lieber was on and he was happily chasing his youngest around the bases.

The kid safely made it to third and turned for home and the competitor in Lieber couldn’t help but tag the boy on the back. The kid never stopped running and crossed home plate in pure joy.

That is spring training.

I’m sure you’ve seen Jimmy Rollins’ comments by now, about how his Phillies are the class of the NL. Don’t dismiss them. I’ve talked to a lot of scouts who feel the same way.

They have the ace of the future in Cole Hamels. I’ve seen the kid pitch since Little League out in San Diego and he has got it together this year, plus he’s married to Survivor gal Heidi Strobel. The Mets left-handed hitters will have their work cut out for them for years against Hamels’ killer changeup.

Pat Burrell insists he’s healthy again after his foot surgery and he is key to the offense because everyone will be pitching around Ryan Howard.

But it’s only the first real week of spring training, plenty of time to discuss all that later. More importantly, Clearwater is the home to the original Hooters on Route 60.

The place to go, though, is Frenchy’s, down by the water, get the Super Grouper sandwich and take a walk on the beach at sunset. You won’t be disappointed.

Happy Birthday Joel Skinner.
