While most everyone around Team USA is celebrating Sunday’s win over Canada, GM Brian Burke has thrown cold water on the “Minor Miracle on Ice.”
“I’m not happy with the way we played,” Burke told SeattlePI.com. “If that’s how we play, we’re going to have a hard time getting where we want to be.”
Goaltender Ryan Miller made 42 saves in the 5-3 win over Canada that gave the USA the top seed in the single-elimination medal tournament.
“Except for the goaltender position, we did not deserve it,” Burke said. “But that’s why we brought him. That’s not going to work in the next round. We know it.”
Team USA will play the winner of the Belarus-Switzerland qualifying game.
“I am not pleased with how we played to this point,” Burke said. “Unless we crank it up, this will all be for naught.”
