On Monday, I ranked the best infields in baseball, and I told you I’d do the best outfields today – one of which we saw last night at Citi Field (yeah, not the Mets’). Anyway, nothing worse than empty promises, so away we go:

Again, the honorable mentions: the Astros (Carlos Lee, Michael Bourn and Hunter Pence – Bourn is making the Brad Lidge trade tolerable for Houston), Brewers (Ryan Braun, Mike Cameron and Corey Hart – if Hart were playing better, this trio would be higher) and Orioles (Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones and Nick Markakis – young group that could crack the top three soon).

Now the medal winners:

3. Angels – Juan Rivera, Torii Hunter and Bobby Abreu. Hunter’s having a fantastic year, Rivera’s on pace for 30 homers and 100 RBIs and Abreu is producing well as he always does. Think Abreu might have been a good fit with the Mets?

2. Phillies – Raul Ibanez, Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth. So the Phillies were third in the infield rankings and are second in the outfield ones – now you know why they’re so good. By the way, the Phillies’ signing of Werth three years ago is one of the greatest steals in baseball recently — and maybe in any sport.

1. Dodgers – Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp, Juan Pierre and Andre Ethier. First of all, they have four really good outfielders, not just three, so that’s an edge. They also have the best outfielder between them and the Phillies in Manny. It’s close, but a slight, slight edge to L.A.
