I do think it’s funny that the committee bend over backwards for UConn, not penalizing the Huskies for the 4-3 stretch they’ve been on since Jerome Dyson went down, and wouldn’t even consider giving poor Saint Mary’s a similar break even though the Gaels were a Top-15 team before Patrick Mills went down and still wound up winning 26 games, which the committee obviously decided they won in a lottery.

Seriously, tell me if I’m — to quote Rev. Donald J. Harrington — “beating a dead horse” here, but isn’t there something almost sad not only about the College Basketball Invitational asking a sub-.500 team like St. John’s to its credibility-free event, but also about St. John’s so giddily holding out hope for the bid, and then accepting it?
