The sharps smell blood.

Days after Las Vegas sportsbook managers bemoaned the lopsided amount of wagers being put on Conor McGregor to beat Floyd Mayweather, two bets totaling $2.2 million was placed on Mayweather, ESPN.com reported. The MGM took a $1 million bet Thursday on the 49-0 boxer and moments later a $1.2 million wager was placed at William Hill.

The massive amount of money the public was betting on the Irishman sent his odds from +1100 (a $100 bet would pay $1,100) all the way down to +325. Now, with those those two massive wagers the odds are being pushed back to Mayweather.

“The price is skyrocketing right now,” MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood told ESPN.

McGregor’s chances against Mayweather appear to be slim given that this is the Irishman’s first boxing match and Mayweather has never been defeated as professional. But a combination of McGregor’s popularity, confidence and long odds likely made him a more attractive choice for amateur gamblers, who would have to risk a significant amount of money to see a worthy payoff on Mayweather.

ESPN reported that the average bet placed on McGregor was at Westgate SuperBook was for $212, while Mayweather’s average was $8,036.

The $1.2 million bet on Mayweather, which came when he was -500, pays out $240,000. The $1 million bet came in when he was -550 and pays out $182,000.
