LONDON — Louis Smith was on the wrong end of the tiebreaker for a second straight Olympics, taking the silver medal on pommel horse while Krisztian Berki of Hungary won the gold.

Both finished with identical scores of 16.066, but the execution score breaks the tie and Berki’s was higher. Four years ago, Smith got a bronze because of a similar scenario.

Smith hid any disappointment he might have felt, exchanging a bear hug with Berki, the two-time world champion.

Britain’s Max Whitlock took the bronze medal.
