PORT ST. LUCIE -It seems the recent controversy over David Wells’ book – and the Post’s coverage of it – haven’t escaped the notice of Kirk Gibson.

Gibson, a coach with the Tigers and hunting buddy of Wells, was reluctant to comment on the recent brouhaha surrounding the Yankee lefty.

“David and I are really good friends,” Gibson said. “He’s doing fine.

“He knows he’s accountable for what he said, and there’s nothing really more to say. I know you guys are having fun.”
