Tigers walk it off
Torii Hunter hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, lifting Detroit over the Athletics 7-6 yesterday in Detroit in a game the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera left with an injury.
The Tigers scored four times in the ninth off Grant Balfour (0-3) as the Tigers avoided a sweep.
Max Scherzer gave up six runs in five innings. The no-decision left him with a 19-1 record.
Cabrera hurt his abdomen making an awkward slide while trying to stretch a single into a double in the fifth inning. He was listed as day to day with discomfort.
Cabrera got two hits before being injured, increasing his major league-leading batting average to .359. He leads baseball with 130 RBIs, and his 43 homers trail only Baltimore’s Chris Davis.
Orioles 3, Red Sox 2
In Boston, Chris Tillman pitched seven strong innings to earn his 15th victory and the Orioles avoided a three-game sweep.
The loss left the Red Sox 2 1/2 games ahead of the Rays in the AL East.

In Pittsburgh, Yovani Gallardo pitched seven sharp innings for the Pirates who fell one game behind NL Central-leading St. Louis. The Cardinals were idle, and start a three-game series at Pittsburgh tonight.

In St. Petersburg, Fla., L.A.’s Jason Vargas allowed two hits over seven innings as the Rays lost for the fourth time in their last five.
Braves 3, Indians 1
In Atlanta, Brian McCann hit a three-run homer, Kris Medlen pitched seven scoreless innings and the Braves completed a sweep.
